Yesterday, I penned an opinion piece touching on the Ababu issue, on the post, I wondered why the party’s head honchos were reluctant to weigh in on the Ababu story. Well, later that day, ODM’s number two man, Governor Hassan Joho, emphatically weighed in with a stinging critique that summarily signaled a political divorce.
Almost on cue, the progressive western wing of the party came out with a heavy indictment of the SG and went as far as fronting an alternative to Ababu! And here is where the party must now exercise due diligence.
It’s now clear that Ababu is on a political kamikaze mission and he is simply looking for a clever way out but not before inflicting a permanent and politically decisive wound on the party.
What Ababu is doing seems like a road tested strategy of blaming the Orange party for heavy handedness and then playing victim on his way out. In other words, he would love to be escorted out in the manner in which Magerer Langat was shown the door. He wants to piss off the party loyalists and make them go “there” by manhandling him out of Orange house in full view of the press. He craves political martyrdom!
ODM MUST NOT grant him his wish! And for the record, ODM has a strong case for dismissing him purely on grounds of nonperformance. The whole world knows that he has been the no-show SG who prefers lone-ranger initiatives. There is no evidence to suggest that his political value will hit higher decibels in a post-ODM SG environment and that’s why he must make his exit sensational.
Sensationalism is politically romantic and attracts more attention. It’s an easy way of exaggerating one’s real value.
It’s ironic that he is making more noise on his way out than he did as Party SG.

The onus is on ODM to make his replacement as seamless and drama-free as possible. Ababu and company want to witness a meltdown but its time for ODM to flip the script.
