Handing over two dummy cheques to two district commissioners yesterday in Dar es Salaam, Dr Mengi said: “There is no way the country can succeed in fighting poverty without investing in education.”
“Whenever we speak about education, some people think that the one who receives it is the one who will benefit …This concept is not true because educating children the whole nation is going to harvest the fruits,” he said.
He underscored the need for the public to invest in quality education of the children as they are going to realise marvelous advantages in the future.
Dr Mengi also called upon well to do people to support the efforts and donate whatever they have to assist the children in the country learn in favourable environments.
“There are some people who have been blessed by God because their living good life, I call upon them to help improving the education sector and God will bless them more,” Dr Mengi explained.
He also promised to assist the two districts by holding desk fundraising events to make them abide by the president’s directive.
For her part, Handeni district commissioner Husna Msangi commended Dr Mengi for his support, saying God will reward him generously.
“We have a shortage of 4000 desks at the moment but your support had lifted us to another stage,” said Msangi urging other people to emulate Dr Mengi’s example.
Bagamoyo district commissioner Majid Mwanga pointed out that his district had a shortage of 2463 desks. He commended Dr Mengi for his support as it will reduce the challenge.
“With this support and other stakeholders support, I am comfortable that I will beat the deadline which the president had set,” he said.
